Our agency was designed to support individuals with developmental disabilities. This is a broad category that includes people with various labels
such as mental retardation, autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, etc. I give you these terms so you have a framework; however, we resist the historical practice of defining people by their labels or such things as perceived “functioning” levels. Instead, we describe what we can observe, such as what support a person needs in any given situation. We work with folks who have a variety of support needs. We believe that all people have the right to be a contributing and valued part of their communities. We do not exclude anyone based on his or her perceived limitations or challenges. We believe that our communities are better when we learn to value the unique, individual contributions each member offers.
A Typical Day
A typical day will be spent walking through people’s day with them. Providing whatever level of support and teaching an individual needs to do the things they want to do in their life. This can be assisting people at their job, volunteering, running their own businesses, going to school, or accessing their community. The goal of our service is to assist people in leading meaningful, purposeful and valued lives.
